MEET OUR STOCKISTS #1: CLAIRE TIBBS FROM HUMBOLDT HOUSE

2020 has been a rough and challenging year!
It also further developed our sense of community. We have decided to interview our stockists for you to get to know them better.
We are opening this series with Claire Tibbs from the Humboldt House, in Chicago!

  • Could you please describe your store? When did it open?

Humboldt House is a feminist shop filled with beautiful goods to elevate self care and home rituals. Humboldt House opened 8 years ago this May in 2013.

  • What are the most important things to consider when selecting products for your store?

Humboldt House carries goods from self care to sustainable kitchen wares. Each item is chosen for its dedication to craft and design. We love items in every hue of an earthy rainbow. We love items that bring beauty to everyday rituals at home. Planters that hold our plant babies, soaps and salts for quiet moments in a warm bath, candles for a cozy glow, throws and pillows that warm a room and objects as beautiful in use as they are in rest.

  • What do you like about Capra Designs’ products?

Capra was an immediate hit at Humboldt House. We love the earthy colors, the nod to mid century design with the terrazzo and modern shapes. Capra items are beautiful on their own or make the most charming of statements as a collection.

  • What is your favourite Capra Designs’ planter? Which plant would you select to go with it?

I couldn’t help myself when bringing home an Archie planter in salt. I’m excited to pick out the perfect snake plant for it.

  • Do you have any styling advice to help our customers create a little jungle corner at home?

One of my favorite things about plants is that it’s a lesson in letting go of control! They’re always growing in some funny way you’d have never guessed. Spilling out of the perfect planter. Or needing more sun than the cute spot on the shelf provides. And the two that look so cute next to each other actually want to be on different sides of the house! Listen to them and let them thrive. They’ll need to be moved around to find their perfect light, they’ll need a new pot, new soil and they’ll probably grow some weird arm that isn’t cute but has a lot of charm if you’re open to seeing it! Enjoy the process and don’t worry so much about the stagnant curated image, invite the change!
