Some of OUR FAVOURITE ICONIC STORES IN NYC

I've only been to New-York City a couple of times but this city certainly leaves a lasting memory in everyone's mind. So many iconic places and museums to visit, architectural marvels to see and five boroughs to discover.

The last Capra Designs was in NYC was in February 2020, for Shoppe Object, to present our Sol Collection for the very first time and we discover so many special homewares and furniture stores during the trip. Here is a list of our favourite stores you should visit the next time you're in NYC:

1. Design within reach

Everything is in the name. DWR is an iconic homewares and furniture store that brings designers' pieces directly to the customers, making design pieces visible and available for more people. Visit the store to spot some famous pieces such as the Eames Lounge Chair, the Alvaar Alto's Artek Stool, the Ant Chair by Arne Jacobsen or even Charlotte Perriand's LC7 Swivel Chair (my personal favourite).

2. MoMA Design Store

After visiting the collections of the MoMA, why not visit the great MoMA Design Store to end the day? Conveniently located near the main museum entrance, the Design Store is the perfect place to find an art book but also to shop some design homewares and home accessories. Think Hay Design colourful appliances, Ettore Sotsass' kitchen accessories that look like art pieces and many other useful objects to make your life easier and your home exceptionally curated.

3.The Future Perfect

The Future Perfect's hidden showroom or " Casa Perfect" is a nomadic showroom. It sits between a showroom and a gallery, Casa Perfect is a place where a selection of artworks, pieces of furniture and objects that suit the changing architecture and atmosphere are brightly displayed. Casa Perfect also hosts solo shows to highlight the work of certain artists or designers.

4. Leif

Leif is a beautiful lifestyle store that selects delicate, useful and even poetic home goods for every home. You'll be able to find some lovely pillows, throws and blankets to make your living or bedroom warmer. Or perhaps some scented candles for your bathroom, as some stunning prints to decorate your walls.

5. Raini Home

Raini is well-known for their sculptural, hand-made, and sometimes hand-painted chairs. With a focus on oval shapes, smooth angles and earthy colours, Raini Home's small but striking collection is a true pleasure for the eye. All their pieces are designed, made and assembled in Brooklyn.

6. Coming Soon

If you need some colourful and fun accessories in your home, Coming Soon is the place to visit. Think colourful cutlery, neon glasswares, unusual bowls, playful rugs and more. At the intersection of New York’s Lower East Side and Chinatown, Coming Soon captures the creative spirit of the area and curates bold objects to make your home stand out.
